Fiumicino Airport

Fiumicino Airport (FCO), Rome’s international airport, is officially called Aeroporto Leonardo Da Vinci and is connected to the centre of Rome by means of a direct, non-stop train that shuttles back and forth between the airport and the main railway station Termini. The price of the ticket for this train (the “Leonardo Express“) is 11 Euros and can be bought at vending machines and ticket offices, but also at tobacconists an newspaper stands. It needs to be validated before boarding the train, in the yellow machines at the beginning of the tracks. The trip takes around 30 minutes. The first train from Termini leaves at 5.52 a.m. and the last one at 11.52 p.m. There is a train every 30 minutes. Most of these trains leave from platform 25, which requires an extra walk once you are inside Roma Termini. Stay to the right of platform 24 and just go on till you get there.

A taxi from Fiumicino airport to the center of Rome costs 40 Euros. This is a fixed rate and does neither depend on the number of passengers or bags, nor on the day of the week or the time of the day. Avoid the guys that come up to you as soon as you enter the arrival hall at the airport. They either do not have a licence or try to jump the queue and get the best (read: most gullible) tourists into their cabs.
