Ciampino - Rome’s budget airport

Ciampino is Rome’s second airport and is important because it is where the budget airline RyanAir lands. It is 15km from the centre of Rome and it takes between 20 minutes and one hour to get there, depending on raffic and the means of transportation you choose.

A taxi from Ciampino to anywhere within the Roman walls (this includes the Chaplin Bed and Breakfast) will cost you 30 Euros, regardless of the number of people, the number of bags you carry, the time of day or the day of the week. Usually the first taxi drivers that accost you will try to get a lt more out of you: Just wait till somebody quotes you the correct rate.

If you do not want to pay for a taxi, or wish to avoid haggling about the price, the easiest, but not always quickest, way of getting there is by taking a direct bus to Roma Termini, the main railway station of Rome, near Bed and Breakfast Chaplin Hostel.

At the moment there are 3 companies providing this service: Co.Tra.L, SIT Shuttle and Terravision. Co.Tra.L’s service is not very regular. Terravision, which has an office around the corner from the Chaplin Hostel, to the left of the Via Marsala entrance of Roma Termini, is the cheapest (4 Euros, 8 Euros return). Their one disadvantage is that, on the way from Ciampino into Rome, they will not drive off before every seat on the bus is taken. On the way back to the airport they do have fixed departure times (that are even adapted to the departure times of the RyanAir flights). The SIT Shuttle buses have fixed departure times in both directions. Tickets for the Co.Tra.L and SIT companies can be bought on the bus, tickets for the Terravision buses have to be bought beforehand.

Co.Tra.L also provides a bus service to Anagnina, the last stop on line A of the underground sytem in Rome, and to the railway station of Ciampino city. From Anagnina you can then take the metro to Roma Termini. From the railway station of Ciampino you can obviously take a train to Termini.
