For those visitors who are only in Rome for a short visit the Eternal City has now provided a special tourist ticket: The Roma Pass costs 23 Euros and gives the holder three days of public trasport (buses, streetcars and subway) in Rome, plus free access to two museums or monuments, plus a reduced admission price to other tourist attractions. An added advantage is that, with the Roma Pass, one will not need to stand in line for the two first monuments one wishes to visit.

The Pass is divided into two parts (the public transportation part and the museum part) and can be bought at the tourist information points that can be found all over the city.

The Vatican Museums are not included in the Roma Pass and neither are any other church-run tourist attractions in Rome.

Along with the Roma Pass, which also can be bought at (some, but not all, or not all the time) tobacconists and at the included attractions themselves, one gets a map of Rome and a list of the sights, as well as the Roma News booklet, a guide to upcoming events and exhibitions.

With the Roma Pass one can also get discounts at special cultural events, like theatre, dance etc and at the Colosseum there is even a special entrance for holders of the Roma Pass. Note also that the Colosseum, the Palatine and the Forum Romanum count as one visit only.

The Roma Pass is not valid until you use it the first time. At that moment you will have to write your first and family names and your date of birth on the back. You will also need to always have an ID with you. From the third attraction you visit onwards you will have to show the Pass at the entrance in order to get the discount.

The Roma Pass really consists of two passes, one for the museums which is valid for 72 hours, and one for public transport, which is valid until midnight of the third day. With the public transportation pass you can use the buses, the metro, the trams and the Met.Ro trains on the following lines: Roma - Lido, Roma - Viterbo (but only until the Sacrofano station), and Roma - Pantano.
