Public transportation news for Rome, 4 February 2012

• Public transportation problems: No particular problems today. On Saturdays the underground runs until 1.30 AM.
• In case you are leaving Rome (or arriving into the city) next Monday: A public transportation strike has been announced, so leave yourself some extra time to get to the airport. (UPDATE: This strike has since been cancelled!)
• The Shopping 1 Bus line is completely free and is meant to take people as quickly as possible to Rome’s most famous shopping districts so they can start spending their money. The Shopping 1 line will run until February 14.

• As of December 23 there is another ice skating rink, next to the Castel Sant’Angelo. It is called Grinzing Village and, until February 26, will be open every day from 10 AM until midnight. During weekdays admission is 7 Euros, in the weekends and on holidays it is 8 Euros.

• Both our Bed and Breakfast Little Italy (Colosseum area) and  Chaplin B&B Rome (near Termini station) offer cheap last minute accommodation in Rome until the end of February 2012. Single rooms are available for 40 Euros/night and doubles for 45 Euros/night. Breakfast is included. The 2 Euro per person per night tourist tax is not.
