Ciampino (officially Aeroporto G.B. Pastine) is Rome’s second airport, and is of special importance since the budget airline RyanAir has its home base there. Before the budget airline companies existed the airport of Ciampino was a military airport.
At the moment the inhabitants of the city of Ciampino are complaining a lot about the noise level and the number of daily flights at the airport and there is talk of building a new airport north of Rome, near the city of Viterbo.
The Ciampino Airport Code is CIA.
The airport of Ciampino is very small and there are no more than a couple of shops. There is also really only one place where you can get something to eat and lines tend to be very long here, so it is recommended that you bring something to eat with you.

Directions to the Rome Ciampino Airport Connections to Termini
By car
The distance between the center of Roma and Ciampino Airport is around 15km. It is situated just outside the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare). To reach Rome follow the Via Appia Nuova till you come to the Basilica of Saint John in Lateran (Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano). Close to the airport there are exits to the highways in the directions Naples and L'Aquila.
By Train
Take a Co.Tra.L bus (1,20 Euros, the ticket can be bought of the driver) to Ciampino railway station and then a train to Roma Termini.
By bus
Three different private bus companies provide a direct connection between the airport of Ciampino and the Roma Termini train station. Terravision and SIT Shuttle both charge 4 Euros for a one-way trip from Ciampino to Termini and 6 Euros for a return trip. For a one way trip from Termini to Ciampino they charge 6 Euros however. Both have stops in the Via Marsala. Terravision also has an office there.
The A.Tra.L bus from Ciampino to Roma Termini is 3,90 Euros (return: 6,90 Euros) and stops in the Via Giolitti. Tickets for these buses are sold at desks in the arrival hall at the airport but can also be acquired directly from the driver. When buying the ticket at Terravision's office in the Via Marsala, you are sometimes asked for your RyanAir ticket.
By underground
First take a bus to Anagnina (Co.Tra.L , 1,20 Euro), where you can change onto the metro (line A) to Roma Termini. Buy your ticket at a tobacconist or newspaper stand for 1 Euro. (Note that, except on Saturdays, until April 2012 the A line will stop running at 9PM).
By taxi
There is a fixed price of 30 Euros from Ciampino Airport to the center of Rome (by "center of Rome" that part of the city that is within the Aurelian walls is meant). This price is always the same regardless of luggage, how big your group is (NB: a normal taxi is not allowed to carry more than 4 passengers), what time of day it is or what day of the week. Often taxi drivers will try to turn on the meter or ask for far more than is allowed, so it is better to find out what they are going to charge you before entering the car.
