Pizzeria Formula Uno

One of the oldest and most popular pizzerias in Rome is Formula Uno. Being located in the historic district of San Lorenzo it is therefore much frequented by university students as well as by young Roman themselves.

The pizzas are among the best Rome has to offer. The starters consist mostly of fried foods (zucchini flowers, stuffed olives (olive ascolane) and salt cod fillet), but you could do worse than asking for some bruschette miste.

The menu is on the place-mat in front of you when you sit down, though there is also a better looking version in English (though you might be hard put to figure out what on earth a “silly goose” pizza is).

The atmosphere is very informal, the service fast and the waiters are without exception friendly and the prices among the lowest in Rome.

Arrive before 8PM and the place looks deserted, arrive at 8.30PM and you will not see an empty seat. Enter anyway and ask: There is another area at the back and if that is full as well, ask to be put on the list and wait outside. It’s worth it!

Testifying

  • Posters of Formula 1 cars and drivers past and present attest to the owner’s love for auto racing. The atmosphere is casual and friendly and draws students from the nearby university as well as pizza lovers from all over the city. Its location in the trendy San Lorenzo neighborhood makes it a convenient stop for dinner before checking out some of the area’s bars.(Fodor’s)
