The Museum of Roman Civilization (Museo della Civiltà Romana) is one of the few museums in the world without any original object or work of art, since its entire collection consists of reproductions, drawings, etc.
The aim of the museum is to use these reproductions to highlight Roman civilization from its earliest beginnings until the Empire and the Christian period.
One of the highlights of the museum consists of the casts of the inscriptions on the Column of Trajan that were made in 1860 by order of Napoleon III and depict the wars waged by Trajan himself against the Dacians.
There is also a plastic of the Roman Empire in the times of Constantine, which shows Rome the way it must have looked in the 6th century. Its scale is 1:250 and it measures around 200 square meters. The reconstruction took more than 40 years.
