Activities

Over one hundred museums, a seemingly never ending list of churches, picturesque streets, monuments and ruins; sight-seeing in Rome can be tiring, so a tourist might want to relax and do something else after a couple of days of culture overload. Swimming, or just lying by the water, is of course an interesting option, especially in the summer months. There are several beaches near Rome, which can be reached in one hour to 90 minutes. North of the city, there are some lakes, but if you don’t want to travel far, there are also some swimming pools in Rome itself. Some bigger hotels have rooftop pools, but the rates tend to be fairly expensive. Rome has two football (soccer, for people who think football is played with your hands) teams in the first division, Lazio and Roma. The Olympic Stadium is located in the north of the city. Rome’s basketball team plays its home matches in the Palazzetto dello Sport in the quarter of EUR and Italy’s rugby home matches in the Six Nations Tournament are played in the Stadio Flaminio. Italians prefer dubbing to subtitles and there are, regrettably, only very few cinemas that show movies in the original language.
