Vegetarian

Dear vegetarians and vegans, the situation has improved somewhat. Not too long ago there were only a couple of vegetarian restaurants in Rome, and since the market dictates that scarcity costs, these were not among the cheapest eateries in Rome.

Of course there has always been the possibility of asking for a vegetarian dish in a “normal” restaurant, but the concept was not always entire clear and the phrase “But there is only a little bit of meat in it”, could regularly be heard pronounced by the waiters and owners of Rome’s trattorie or osterie.

As said, the situation has improved. More vegetarian and vegan restaurants have opened their doors and the regular restaurants have learned to cater also to the non-meat eating population.
