If you want to stay in a central Rome hotel you can do worse than staying near Piazza Navona.

The biggest advantage of choosing your accommodation in the easy access you have to almost every important tourist attraction in Rome, and that without having to make use of the city’s public transportation system. There is a lot to be said for being able to go for an evening stroll to the Pantheon or to Trastevere without having to worry about getting back to your hotel before public transport stops running.

Being located in the historical center of Rome, hotels in this and similar areas, tend to be housed in historical buildings too, which will enhance the picturesqueness of your stay (though not always the spaciousness of your room).

There is a small disadvantage for people who arrive in Rome with a their own or a rental car. A large part of downtown Rome is forbidden for non-residents of the city. If you intend to enter the city by car and you are staying near Piazza Navona you should ask your hotel to get you a special permit to drive through this area.

If you are staying in Rome for a longer period and plan on making day trips out of the city, you might consider finding your accommodation closer to Termini, Rome’s main public transportation hub.
